COUNT and COUNTA

How many?

Maya jots quick notes in column H when something happens at the stall. How many notes did she write?

COUNT counts cells that contain numbers.

COUNTA counts cells that aren't empty: numbers, text, anything. (The A stands for “all”.)

COUNTBLANK counts the empty ones.

=COUNT(range) =COUNTA(range) =COUNTBLANK(range)

COUNT on a column of words returns 0. If that happens, you probably wanted COUNTA.
