COUNTIF

Count what matches

How often did it rain? How many times did something fly off the table? COUNTIF counts only the rows that match.

COUNTIF looks through a range and counts the cells that match a condition.

The condition goes in quotes: "Rainy", ">=40", "<>Drinks". Text matches ignore upper and lower case.

Think of it as COUNT with a filter built in.

=COUNTIF(range, condition)

You can point the condition at a cell: =COUNTIF(B2:B16, K1) counts whatever you type in K1.
