SUM

Add up a whole range at once

SUM adds every number in a range. A range is a block of cells written as first cell : last cell. G2:G16 means “G2 down to G16”.

=SUM(G2:G16) is the same as =G2+G3+…+G16, just shorter and safer: insert a row in the middle and SUM still includes it.

Empty cells and text are ignored, so SUM never breaks on a missing value.

=SUM(range)

Select a range and look at the bottom-right corner of Google Sheets: it shows the sum without a formula.
