SUMIF

Add up what matches

The big one. Maya wants to know which products actually pay the bills, and how much the weather matters.

SUMIF checks one column for a condition and adds up the matching values from another column.

=SUMIF(C2:C16, "Cinnamon bun", G2:G16) reads: look down the Product column, and wherever it says Cinnamon bun, add the revenue from the same row.

Both ranges must be the same size and start on the same row. That's the most common mistake.

=SUMIF(where to look, condition, what to add)

AVERAGEIF works exactly the same way, but averages instead of adding.
